Mobile Library Services: FAQs

Yes. You can apply for a free library card on any Mobile Library that can be used on the Mobile Library or at any Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) location.

Most Mobile Library Services materials can be checked out for six weeks and renewed for an additional six weeks. However, DVDs can be checked out for two weeks and renewed for two weeks. Rapid Reads and Rapid Views check out for one week but can be kept for two weeks if your bookmobile stop doesn’t come weekly.

Mobile Libraries has the following book drops located throughout eastern El Paso County:

Patrons are encouraged to drop Library materials off at these locations at any time.

Mobile Library staff will take holds requests and reserves at the Mobile Library desk. You can also call (719) 531-6333, x7702 to place a hold by phone.

Your holds will automatically be brought to the bookmobile stop on your account. Please call Mobile Library staff at (719) 531-6333, x7702 or email bookmobile@ppld.org to have an available hold sent to a different stop or library location.

Your holds will be available at your chosen bookmobile stop two times. After that, if they are not picked up, they will be returned to the library’s collection. If a bookmobile stop is cancelled due to inclement weather, mechanical issues, etc., this will not count towards your two-stop pickup.

Your available holds will be automatically delivered to your chosen bookmobile stop the next time we are scheduled to be at your location. If you would prefer to pick your items up sooner, you can come to the Penrose Library (20 N. Cascade Avenue, 80903) and ask at the service desk.

Materials charged out from Mobile Libraries can be returned to the Mobile Library or any PPLD facility.

No, Pikes Peak Library District does not charge late fees. Keep the items that are due and return them the next time the Mobile Library comes to your stop. You may also return them at any PPLD location.

Not all titles showing Mobile Libraries as their location are on the vehicles. Please call Mobile Library staff at (719) 531-6333, x7702 to have a title placed on the vehicle visiting your stop.

To have the title sent to a Library near you, you may place a hold and select your preferred Library location as the pickup location.
